Planned Parenthood Benefit Removed from War Supplemental

Contact: Natalie Bell, Media Coordinator, Concerned Women for America, 202-488-7000 ext. 126

WASHINGTON, June 20 /Christian Newswire/ -- A provision that would have benefited Planned Parenthood was stripped at the last minute from the War Supplemental Bill.  This provision would have allowed for certain Planned Parenthood clinics and university healthcare centers to get drugs at nominal prices, allowing for easier and cheaper distribution of controversial drugs such as Plan B.  The U.S. House of Representatives passed the bill last night to fund our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America (CWA), said, "Our troops need funding, and their bill should not be loaded up with benefits for Planned Parenthood.  Planned Parenthood already receives over $300 million in funding from federal, state and local governments.  In 2006, Planned Parenthood reported a record revenue of $112 million.  CWA is pleased this bill funds our troops instead of lining the already inflated pockets of Planned Parenthood."
