MILWAUKEE, Dec. 10, 2020 /
Christian Newswire/ --Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity News Page
https://fscc-calledtobe.org/franciscan-sisters-news/ will feature artists, events and reflections on Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Juan Diego.
First profiled is Los Angeles artist Lalo Garcia. As one who continues to give his life to her intercession, Lalo devotion and love for his native culture combine with his faith and commitment, reflected in his unique compositions. He is a commissioned artist selected by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to create artwork for the Cathedral of the Angels.
His two featured paintings are a contemporary image of Our Lady, (Cihualpilli Tonantzin or Noble Little Indian, Our Mother). "I depicted her surrounded by Aztec angels playing indigenous instruments, how I think she was welcomed at Tepeyac Hill by her people. The second depicts St. Juan Diego revealing our Lady to Archbishop Juan de Zumarraga, and for the world to see."
Other resources include links to national celebrations, such as the Mass Stream offered by Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine in Des Plaines IL with live feeds for a virtual pilgrimage to the actual Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City. Also, parish celebrations such as the planned December 13th Veneration of the Virgin Guadalupe at St. Thomas Parish in Newton WI.
Also, an excerpt from Mary's words in the Aztec language to St. Juan Diego from Guadalupe published by CARA Studies on Popular Devotion. "Do know this, do be assured of it in your heart, my littlest one that I myself, I am the entirely and ever Virgin Saint Mary, Mother of the true divinity, God Himself..."
The week of December 13 spotlights San Diego based Catholic musician Lupe Rios "I tend to take traditional songs from my growing up in Mexico and from where I've lived, and sing and arrange them with those echoes murmuring ideas in my ear."
Since 1869, Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity have served in Catholic Health Care, Education, Campus Ministry and Parish-Community Service throughout the U.S. Recently, discerning women have been joining us from Ohio, Michigan, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Texas.
