GARDEN GROVE, Calif., Dec. 2, 2014 /Christian Newswire/ -- Singer-songwriter Nita Whitaker, who has performed with some of the leading names in the recording industry, including Barbara Streisand and Celine Dion, will be the featured guest on this week's "Hour of Power with Bobby Schuller" (www.hourofpower.org). Schuller will continue his series for Advent with the message "Keep Watch – Take Heart!"

The newly re-launched program will also include "Healing," the seventh film in the Ed's Story series, featuring Ed Dobson, pastor emeritus of Calvary Church in Grand Rapids, Mich. Dobson will talk about tragedies and how we have little control over life, but through acknowledging this lack of control we can understand the notion of healing.

Whitaker is a singer, songwriter and author and has worked with David Foster, as well as performed with Barbara Streisand and Celine Dion. She will sing "Silent Night," accompanied by Nelson Cole on piano and Dr. Marc Riley and the Hour of Power Orchestra.

Also, directed by Albert McNeil, the Albert McNeil Jubilee Singers will sing "Wonderful Counselor." The group has been together for four decades and has performed in more than 70 countries.

This week's spiritual discipline will focus on silence. By turning off cell phones, televisions, social media and computers, people can enter into a place of silence where God can speak more easily into their lives.

"This is such an important and powerful time of year as we move into the season of Advent and celebrate Christ's birth," said Schuller. "Each element in this week's program is designed specifically to encourage people and give them guidance and hope through Christ. From the music to the message to the spiritual disciple, we hope people will draw closer to Jesus and experience His transforming love."

The new "Hour of Power" retains its popular sacred music and sermon while incorporating new segments, including special guests interviewed on location and popular music performers. The program is produced by Baas Creative, the film company that created the innovative "Nooma" videos, which present Jesus in compelling ways.

The ministry, founded by Schuller's grandfather, began as the Garden Grove Community Church at the Orange Drive-in Theatre in 1955, soon adding a 300-seat chapel four miles away. It later expanded to the larger campus. As the ministry grew, in 1970 the "Hour of Power" television program launched and aired in all 50 states by 1975. The program eventually became the most-watched religious program in the world, reaching 17 million viewers.

"Hour of Power with Bobby Schuller" can be seen in the U.S. on TBN, The Church Channel, Oxygen and local ION Television in Tampa/St. Petersburg, Phoenix, Grand Rapids and Los Angeles.

Supported by a network of 11 Hour of Power local offices around the world, the full hour airs internationally in Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Hong Kong, Iceland, New Zealand, Pearl River Delta/China Mainland, the Republic of Ireland, Russia, South Africa and other African countries, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
