Freedom & Faith Concert with Steve Amerson, Gary Sinise & Medal of Honor Recipient Sammy Davis
Contact: Amerson Music Ministries, 818-368-0749

LOS ANGELES, June 24, 2014 /Christian Newswire/ -- Amerson Music Ministries announces it is conducting an event entitled "Freedom and Faith" at the 4 Eagle Ranch in Wolcott, Colorado, July 17, 2014.

The evening dinner and concert will feature "America's Tenor" Steve Amerson, Medal of Honor recipient, Sammy Davis, and television and film star, Gary Sinise.

Steve Amerson is a recording artist whose voice can be heard on over 160 feature films and countless television shows and commercials. Mr. Amerson is a musical ambassador for the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation and Society who sings for their events throughout the United States. In 2009, Mr. Amerson was presented the Bob Hope Excellence for Entertainment Award from the Congressional Medal of Honor Society.

Sammy Davis joined the United States Army in 1965 right out of high School. After completing training, he asked to be sent to Vietnam where he served with the Army's 9th Infantry Division. In November, 1967, Mr. Davis and his unit were west of Cai Lay when they fell under heavy mortar attack by the North Vietnamese Army. Mr. Davis manned a machine gun to give his comrades covering fire so they could fire artillery in response. Mr. Davis was wounded but continued firing the unit's burning howitzer himself. Despite his injuries, Mr. Davis crossed a river on an air mattress to rescue three wounded comrades and continued fighting. He received the Medal of Honor the following year from President Lyndon Johnson. Footage of President Johnson putting the medal around Mr. Davis's neck appeared in the movie Forrest Gump (with Tom Hanks's head substituted for Mr. Davis's), and Gump's fictional Medal of Honor story was loosely based on Mr. Davis's.

Gary Sinise is known for several memorable roles. He has played Harry S. Truman in Truman, astronaut Ken Mattingly in Apollo 13, and detective Mac Taylor in CSI: NY; but he is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Lt. Dan Taylor in the landmark film Forrest Gump. It was through this role that he formed an enduring connection with servicemen and women throughout the military community. After several USO handshake tours in 2003, Sinise formed the "Lt. Dan Band" in early 2004 and began entertaining troops serving at home and abroad. The band now performs close to 50 shows a year for military bases, charities and fundraisers supporting wounded warriors, Gold Star families, veterans and troops around the world.

The July 17th event is a fundraiser for Amerson Music Ministries and its on-going work of changing lives and influencing the culture through the power of a song. This evening will be a celebration of the freedoms we enjoy as Americans and the debt we owe American heroes who have made our freedom secure as well as reflecting on how God has blessed America.
