CANTON, Ohio, Jan. 26 /Christian Newswire/ -- JOHN O'NEILL, the Navy Swift Boat Captain who headlined the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth movement in the 2004 Presidential campaign, has now endorsed Paul Schiffer for Congress in Ohio's 16th Congressional District. O'Neill commanded the same Swift Boat in Vietnam as John Kerry. John O'Neill said:
"I am very proud to endorse Paul Schiffer. Without his help in 2004 (given for no gain and against great odds) John Kerry might have captured the Presidency---a truly frightening thought to anyone who loves our nation. In a country that has lost faith in Washington, Paul's selfless idealism calls us forward to a better time for our country. I strongly urge his election. He is exactly the kind of person we need to throw the bums out."
The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth exposed John Kerry's "Winter Soldier" slander in the 1970's of the young Americans who served honorably in Vietnam as "baby killers." Along with hundreds of other veterans and patriots, Schiffer played a key role in launching the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth campaign and arranging the publication of Unfit for Command. In February 2004, Paul Schiffer contacted John O'Neill after C-SPAN replayed John O'Neill's June 30, 1971, debate with John Kerry on the Dick Cavett Show. John O'Neill directed Paul Schiffer to meet with Jerry Corsi in Fairlawn, Ohio, in early March 2004. Corsi discussed with Schiffer media strategies for exposing Kerry's inexcusable smears of U.S. veterans. Although hundreds of strategists and dedicated veterans made the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth campaign a success, the SBVT was largely born in Ohio, 20 miles from Ohio's 16th Congressional District. In March and April 2004, Paul Schiffer's radio talk show, The Schiffer Report, in Cleveland, became a meeting and rallying point for Swift Boaters, some of whom had not spoken for 30 years. Schiffer was the first broadcaster in the nation to put the Swift Boaters on the air in Ohio in March 2004.
Schiffer also played a critical role in the publication of Unfit for Command, with over a 1 million copies sold. Schiffer's intervention sparked a second look by Regnery Publishing. Advance copies of chapters and revelations were first revealed on The Schiffer Report, months before the official publication date. The history of Swift Boaters is recorded in Scott Swett's TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT.
