Christian Newswire/ -- Alma Rivera defeated the language and cultural barrier to become a much recognized and beloved International Recording Artist and Worship leader at the Christian Cultural Center (CCC), the largest English speaking church in New York City.
Alma came to the U.S. in 2007 to marry Richard Rivera. She moved from the rough border city of Reynosa, Mexico to the suburbs of Long Island.
It was there that she received a renewed calling to serve the people she so dearly loved, thru music.
This was not easy since English was by far not her first language.
As a matter a fact, in the beginning she & her husband communicated with signs and half-phrases that looked like a game of Charades – the awkward edition.
With the help of her husband, Alma began to sing and write in English.
She felt like Moses and her husband was her Aaron coaching her through song after song.
Her persistence permeated every syllable she sang and did not give up until the choruses came out rapid fire in harmony with pleasant pronunciations.
With God's grace, her tireless efforts paid off.
Alma has sang in some of the most renowned churches such has Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church, Bishop Hezekiah Walker's Love Fellowship Tabernacle, Pastor A.R. Benard's Christian Cultural Center, Mathew Barnett's Angelus Temple, plus many more.
Alma has also appeared in print, and on radio and TV such as TBN, CBN & TBN Salsa.
She not only sings in both English and Spanish but also speaks to young women about staying pure until marriage, and to women & men about being empowered and achieving a driving purpose for living and accomplishing their God given goals.
This incredible feat was not easy as Alma not only had to overcome a language barrier but also the constant attempts from individuals within the music industry to misappropriate her music and talent.
Her determination to overcome limitations and negative labels placed on her and her tireless desire to serve God has resulted in her becoming ordained as a Minister on January 21st, 2018 by Pastor A.R. Bernard of the Christian Cultural (CCC).
The ceremony will occur during the church service beginning at 10a.m. at the CCC Long Island Campus.
