MEDIA ADVISORY, Sept. 25 /Christian Newswire/ -- Dr. Nancy R. Pearcey, Christian scholar, educator, author and speaker, has been named Scholar for Worldview Studies at the Center for University Studies at Philadelphia Biblical University, (PBU), Langhorne, PA.
"Her distinguished education–which includes studying under the late Dr. Francis A. Schaeffer of L'Abri Fellowship in Switzerland–and her extensive work in bringing Christian worldview perspective to important issues of the day make Dr. Pearcey uniquely qualified for this position," said Dr. Todd Williams, Provost.
Dr. Pearcey will teach, speak and write on the integration of Christian thought with scholarship and the application of Christian perspectives to the academy and across the culture. She is the first-ever faculty scholar to be appointed to the Center for University Studies which PBU recently established to advance its vision of scholarship and cultural engagement.
Highly regarded as "one of the few female intellectuals in evangelicalism" (Evangelical Outpost), Pearcey, a former agnostic, has addressed staffers on Capitol Hill and at the White House; actors and screenwriters in Hollywood; scientists at labs such as Sandia and Los Alamos; students and faculty at Stanford, Dartmouth, Princeton, USC, Ohio State, and the University of Georgia; as well as educational and activist groups, including the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C.
Pearcey has appeared on NPR and C-SPAN and was the founding editor of "BreakPoint" radio where as executive editor for nearly nine years, she developed a team of writers producing on a daily basis broadcast-ready commentaries. Under her intellectual leadership, the program became an outlet for Christian worldview analysis of current events and drew an estimated weekly audience of five million. She also served as policy director and senior fellow of the Wilberforce Forum, and for five years she coauthored a monthly column in "Christianity Today." She is author of numerous articles and a Senior Fellow at the Discovery Institute.
In addition to her appointment at PBU, Pearcey will remain editor-at-large of The Pearcey Report, a website edited and published by her husband, J. Richard Pearcy. Previous to accepting her PBU position, Pearcey was the Francis A. Schaeffer Scholar at the World Journalism Institute where she taught a worldview course based on her most recent book, "Total Truth: Liberating Christianity From Its Cultural Captivity." In 2005, it won the Gold Medallion Award for best book in the category of Christianity and Society.
