WASHINGTON, Sept. 19 /Christian Newswire/ -- Concerned Women for America (CWA) applauds Rep. Chris Smith (R-New Jersey) for reintroducing H.R. 356, The Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act. This life-saving legislation requires abortionists to notify their patients that an unborn child as young as 20 weeks old experiences pain during the abortion procedure.
Fetal pain is a reality that most mothers do not take into consideration, but thanks to this bill women will be better informed on their baby’s stages of development and the acute pain the baby will suffer during such a risky procedure.
“Mothers have been kept in the dark for far too long when it comes to fetal pain during an abortion,” said Lanier Swann, CWA’s Director of Government Relations. “Evidence shows that after 20 weeks the baby feels pain to an even greater degree than the mother.
“No mother with a heart would torture her baby in such an inhumane manner. Giving accurate medical information will better equip women to make rational, informed decisions. To oppose this bill is to oppose the free exchange of facts and research women deserve when making a decision that will affect them the rest of their lives,” said Swann.
“We applaud Rep. Smith for taking leadership on this issue and ensuring that every mother considering an abortion takes into account the pain she will inflict on her unborn child. We urge the House to quickly vote on this legislation, with the Senate following suit, so that women will have greater resources and knowledge at their disposal.”
