LAWRENCEVILLE, GA, Jan. 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- Over 5,000 Georgians are gathering to call for a change for life on Thursday, January 22, 2009. Together for Life Memorial Service and Silent Walk, Georgia's largest annual pro-life gathering will be held on the steps of the Georgia Capitol in Atlanta, GA.
The Memorial Service, sponsored by Georgia Right to Life begins at 11:30 AM and is followed by a one-mile long peaceful walk through downtown Atlanta.
Speakers will include Dr. Alveda C. King, niece of Martin Luther King Jr. and Pastoral Associate of Priests for Life and Archbishop Wilton Gregory, of the Archdiocese of Atlanta.
Dr. Alveda C. King remarked, "The right to life is a civil right that transcends political parties. As we march, make sure you pray because the answer we are looking for will not come from politics, but from heaven through prayer. We are advancing the culture of life and ending the culture of death. It's time for righteousness and justice to rise up together."
Together for Life (TFL) commemorates the 36th anniversary of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton Supreme Court decisions that legalized abortion on demand through all nine months of pregnancy. The gathering is a call for life to be protected under the law regardless of age, color, sex, or creed.
"This is not a protest march, it is an opportunity for pro-life Georgians to come together to mourn the deaths of 50 million babies who have died from abortion since 1973," states Dan Becker, Georgia Right to Life President. "It is a stand we take to mark these innocent deaths and a time of prayer."
Dan Becker further remarked, "Now is the time for our culture to make a change from being a culture of death to a culture of life."
Over 30,000 abortions are performed in Georgia annually.
