ASHEVILLE, N.C., March 15, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove is offering seminars this spring and summer focused on apologetics with renowned apologists and scholars.
"Apologetics is crucial to engaging nonbelievers in the post-modern world in which we live," said Scott Holmquist, executive director at The Cove. "These upcoming seminars bring together leading biblical scholars who have a passion for equipping believers to defend the faith."
Renowned Bible teacher, author and evangelist Alex McFarland will headline a seminar April 15-17 called "When Worlds Collide." He will be joined by Gary Habermas, an author and distinguished professor (department chair) of philosophy and theology at Liberty University; and Frank Turek, author of the book "I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist" and host of the television program by the same name.
"When Worlds Collide" attendees will discover what a worldview is, why it is important in how Christians are to engage in the world today, and how Christians can strengthen their biblical worldview and become equipped to defend the faith.
Also, renowned author and apologetics expert Josh McDowell will lead a seminar July 15-17 called "Unshakeable Truth, Relevant Faith." McDowell has written or co-authored more than 120 books and is a highly sought-after speaker. He will be joined by his son Sean McDowell, author, speaker and general editor of "The Apologetics Study Bible."
The passage at the heart of this seminar will be 1 Peter 3:15, often cited as one of the scriptural foundations of the study of apologetics: "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear."
Attendees will learn the essentials of a relevant faith and take home the passion to share their faith effectively in today's culture.
These seminars are a part of The Cove's "Next-Generation Retreats," programs designed specifically for those 45 and under and offered at a special rate. Seminars include modern worship, discussion opportunities and optional recreational activities. Other "Next Generation" Retreats include: "God Rocks the Rebel" with Pedro Garcia and Levi Lusko (May 19-21) and "House or Home? Four Essentials for Godly Parenting" with Chip Ingram (May 27-29).
