Human Rights Activist Majed El Shafie Leading First Canadian Delegation to Washington, DC to Discuss Freedom of Religion and the Rights of Minorities

WASHINGTON, April 17, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- Human rights activist Majed El Shafie, President and Founder of One Free World International, is leading the very first Canadian delegation to visit the United States for the sole purpose of discussing freedom of religion and the rights of minorities around the world. The delegation consists of El Shafie and various Members of Canadian Parliament and Senate as observers, who will be meeting with members of the US Congress and Senate and other U.S. Government officials to discuss the American and Canadian missions to Afghanistan and Iraq, relations with Egypt and Pakistan in light of the so-called "Arab Spring" and the ensuing threats to the state of Israel.
On Tuesday, April 17th, One Free World International is hosting a public reception in the Rayburn House Office Building (Room 2237) from 5pm-7pm.
One Free World International is an international human rights organization based in Toronto, Canada, that focuses on the rights of religious minorities around the world and promotes tolerance, understanding and respect for diverse religious beliefs. The organization promotes awareness of human rights abuses and comes to the aid of those who are suffering because of their religious beliefs or expression.

In November, El Shafie testified before the Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, and Human Rights of the U.S. House of Representatives, regarding the persecution of the Coptic community in Egypt and Christian minorities in Iraq and Iran. His testimony also included details from One Free World International’s recent fact-finding missions to Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan. He returned in March to testify before the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, co-chaired by Congressman Wolf and Congressman McGovern.
