Under a federal court order and a new security protocol, Rev. Mahoney will be the only person allowed to demonstrate or publicly pray on the steps of the Capitol under after the Inauguration.  (Rev. Mahoney is allowed to invite up to four participants to join him.)

Rev. Mahoney will be reading from President Abraham Lincoln's Proclamation of 1863, where he says in part;

    "Whereas it is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon, and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord."

Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, states:

    "Given the division and rancor facing America during this season, it is critical the first thing we do as a nation on Election Day is to seek God in prayer and humility. We will be praying for God's guidance in choosing our elected officials, praying for national healing and a peaceful transference of power.

    "I am choosing the words of President Lincoln's Proclamation of 1863 as he says; 'Whereas it is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon, and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.'

    "Our prayer and public witness at the United States Capitol building is powerful reminder that only God can bring healing and hope to America."
