WASHINGTON, Aug. 1 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Abstinence Clearinghouse presented its "Advocacy Award" to Dr. Janice Shaw Crouse at its recent national convention. Dr. Crouse is Director and Senior Fellow of the Beverly LaHaye Institute, the think tank for Concerned Women for America.
The award recognizes Crouse's work "behind the scenes" in educating people about the effects of teen sex and how abstinence education works in reducing teen sexual activity. Crouse's work also influences public policy through her analysis of data about teen sexual activity, the risks of condoms, the dramatic increase in STDs and the failures of condom-based sex education in the public schools. Crouse is particularly effective in refuting the political attacks against abstinence education.
Crouse is best known for the "sex pyramid" that she developed as a way of talking to teens about sex. Structured like the food pyramid, the sex pyramid is based on values and illustrates the many relational aspects -- beyond merely knowing the "birds and bees" -- that are important in building a good marriage foundation.
Mrs. Beverly LaHaye, Founder and Chairman of Concerned Women for America, said, "We are pleased that the Abstinence Clearinghouse, one of CWA's sister organizations with a mutual mission on promoting abstinence, honored one of our team. It is always gratifying when a CWA expert is recognized for her excellence and professionalism. We are proud of Janice's work and are happy that others, too, recognize her contributions in the policy arena and in the public square."
Concerned Women for America is the nation's largest public policy women's organization.
