NAPLES, Fla., May 26, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Delivering a wide-range of family-friendly programming, Sky Angel is taking advantage of cutting-edge technology to offer subscribers a variety of channels at a low cost. The service uses the internet to deliver live television and an extensive on-demand library, via a secure encryption, directly to a set-top box connected to a TV.
Unlike cable companies, Sky Angel is available anywhere in the country. It also offers a webTV component that can be accessed anywhere that internet is available.
"IPTV services are going to be an important part of the video future. Sky Angel has pioneered a new multichannel television platform that leverages the ubiquity of the Internet and the growing availability of high-speed broadband services. We are happy to be a part of this emerging technology platform," said Bill Airy, The Inspiration Network's Chief Strategy Officer.
Sky Angel is the premier deliverer of Christian and family-friendly programming offering more than 50 Christian networks such as TBN, GOD TV, World Harvest Television and Liberty Channel and more than 30 cable channels including Hallmark Channel, Fox News, the MLB Network and the NFL Network.
"Often faith-based companies are behind the curve when it comes to new technology, but Sky Angel is truly first-in-category in fully implementing internet television," said Tom Scott, President and Chief Operating Officer of Sky Angel's family-friendly television service.
In 1980, the late Robert W. Johnson Sr. started developing the concept for Sky Angel as a way to deliver multiple channels of Christian and family programming to the masses. The company (first known as "Video Satellite Systems" then "Dominion") was one of nine applicants that filed for a license with the Federal Communications Commission to operate new high-powered direct broadcast satellites. The Christian TV service was launched on Dec. 10, 1996, after many years of trials and disappointments, with six television and three radio networks. Sky Angel made the switch to Internet television in 2008.
Sky Angel offers subscribers two services: a traditional TV service available in the U.S. with more than 80 television and radio channels of inspirational and family-friendly programming and a Web TV service offered worldwide with more than 35 inspiring television and radio channels.
