CHICAGO, Jan. 27, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- On January 22, the anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision, every abortion clinic in the country (list of locations available upon request) received an unusual "care package" from the Pro-Life Action League. The package included a note about the recent arrest of Oklahoma abortionist Nareshkumar Patel along with a pair of plastic handcuffs and a handwritten note from the League's executive director, Eric Scheidler, reading, "Could you be next?" Scheidler explained, "This is intended to be a wakeup call for America's abortionists. I want to get them thinking about the moral decay they've been drawn into by profiting from taking the lives of unborn human beings." Scheidler hopes that the recipients will be prompted to evaluate their current line of work and ultimately choose to leave it.

The "handcuffs" mailing is the Pro-Life Action League's latest appeal in an effort to connect abortionists with their own consciences. Promoting the sanctity of human life and exposing the truth about abortion—and those who sell it and profit by it—is part of the peaceful grass roots activism that the Pro-Life Action League has fostered during its 35 years on the front lines.

Patel was arrested December 9 near Oklahoma City and charged with fraud and racketeering for telling women they were pregnant when they were not and then selling them abortion drugs. According to The Oklahoman (a major Oklahoma City news outlet), Patel has been the center of numerous controversies since getting his Oklahoma medical license in 1984. In 1992 he was investigated but never charged for his notorious burning of 55 aborted babies in a field east of Shawnee. Several women have accused him of sexually assaulting them during abortion procedures.

"It's no surprise that those willing to take the lives of unborn children would lose their moral compass and turn to all manner of criminality, as Patel's case illustrates," said Scheidler, "And he's hardly alone." Among the most notorious examples, Scheidler cited Orlando abortionist James Pendergraft who served seven months in federal prison for extortion in 2001 -2002, had his license suspended four different times and was ordered to pay an eight-figure malpractice settlement in 2011 for a botched abortion that left a child alive, but significantly disabled. Details reported here; Phoenix abortionist Brian Finkel who was convicted of sexually molesting patients in 2004 and is now serving a 35 year sentence; and Kermit Gosnell, sentenced to life in prison in 2013 for murdering three infants who survived his abortion procedure by severing their spines with a scissors at his "House of Horrors" in Philadelphia.

But rather than just pointing fingers, the Pro-Life Action League is committed to helping change the hearts of abortionists, and they work regularly with doctors who have turned away from abortion, details here. Former abortionists Dr. Anthony Levatino (Las Cruces, New Mexico), Dr. Beverly McMillan (Jackson, Mississippi), Dr. McArthur Hill (Wheat Ridge, Colorado), and Dr. John Bruchalski (Fairfax, Virginia), are among those who have spoken out with the Pro-Life Action League about their change of heart.

"We hope our handcuffs care package will add to the number of abortionists we've been able to help leave the abortion industry and begin to make amends for what they've done," Scheidler said. In his note accompanying the handcuffs, Scheidler offered to help each abortionist get out of the business, along with his cell phone number. "My hope is that, faced with the alternatives of conviction or conversion, an abortionist will choose conversion. I'll be waiting for that call."
