MEDIA ADVISORY, Aug. 4 /
Christian Newswire/ -- Around the world, Christian men, women, and children face torment and persecution for their beliefs. And World Gospel Mission, an interdenominational missionary-sending agency, thinks it is time to talk about this persecution and its effects on evangelism.
"These are our brothers and sisters who are being persecuted," said Tim Rickel, vice president of Development for WGM. "When we hear about suffering, inevitably we want to figure out what we can do to help. Let's start by talking about this issue."
This month, in its Unsolved Mysteries in Missions blog, WGM invites believers to discuss religious persecution around the globe.
The blog will examine several countries that are at the top of the World Watch List, released by Open Doors, an organization that serves the persecuted church worldwide. In addition, participants will explore whether persecution actually encourages the church to grow.
"As Christians in the United States, we have religious freedoms that we take for granted, simply because we have never experienced severe discrimination for our faith. It's important for us to be aware of--and to hurt for--our suffering brothers and sisters around the world," said Rickel.
