OPINION, June 28, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- As an organization fully behind ending abortion and using multimedia to reach women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy with life-affirming resources, we are beyond pleased with the House of Representative passage of the "Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act," which bans abortions after 20 weeks.

The passage of this Act is a significant victory for the pro-life movement and the protection of unborn life. But the safeguards included in this bill are still at stake, as the U.S. Senate has not yet taken up debate on this issue.

The bill is founded on empirical scientific medical evidence that proves unborn babies can feel pain. Science shows that at eight weeks after fertilization, the unborn child reacts to touch and at 20 weeks the unborn baby responds to what would be felt as pain.

It is vital for individuals to understand that contrary to what some believe, a 20-week-old fetus is not a blob of tissue but a fully formed person with no voice, no vote and no rights. We must recognize this issue is not a war on women but a war on children, and will be working toward educating individuals about this through a nationwide media campaign.

In addition, we urge the Senate to stop the pain and death of unborn children by passing the "Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act" and urge all who support the protection of unborn life to speak up and reach out to their Senators to encourage this debate.
