'Not of This World' Founder Finds Riches & Success Didn't Bring Peace

CORONA, Calif., May 26, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- "This American dream of freedom, opportunity and success gripped my father in a way I could not ignore. I knew people risked their lives for this kind of dream. I made myself a promise. My vow: make a million dollars by the age of thirty. Sure, it was a huge dream for a boy who had just emigrated here from Communist Cuba."

Aureilo Barreto III worked tirelessly to achieve his dream, and did. By the time he was in his 30's he was a multi-millionaire. His company, Dogloo, earned him more money than he ever imagined.  "Call me driven, determined . . . and worried. I lived to work; work had my complete attention," says Barreto.

The author of, Not of This World: From Cuban Refugee, To American Dream, To Finding God, (www.c28.com, www.notw.com) Barretto says it has not been an easy journey. He woke up one day and realized the dream did not bring the satisfaction he thought. "The more I was congratulated, the more depressed I grew. Why was I no happier now than before I graduated to the millionaire club?" Instead, he was depressed, anxious, and his marriage was on the rocks.

"I lost my country as a child and grew up poor. I've battled depression most of my life. I lost my business after building it for ten years, and then lost millions in stock market crashes. The first five years at C28 were a financial disaster. My wife and I have had troubles in our marriage . . ."

In his state of despair, Barreto called on God. "People cling to their safety net of the present day. They lose their only opportunity to take hold of a future hope. Without hope of a promise, there's no life and no future. The more room I give God, the more I see God's work -- and it is much better than mine.  I see trials as a normal part of life, and many times God engineers trials to get our attention or bring us closer to Him."

The founder of C28 Christian stores and the Not of This World clothing line, Barreto has seen thousands of people come to faith in Christ through his stores and the outreaches that his company sponsors with Christian musicians. His marriage is restored. "Satan knows that if he can break a marriage, he can break a family. And if he can break a family, he can break a ministry."  Today, he says, "We can't hide and we can't shrink away from the opportunities God gives us to share our hope."
