WASHINGTON, Nov. 20, 2014 /Christian Newswire/ -- Statement on Immigration Reform by Rev. Eve Nunez, President of the National Latina/Latino Commission (formerly the Arizona Latino Commission):

    Republicans and Democrats,

It is time to act. While American children and their parents are being separated and deported, politics are being played out on the backs of the immigrant community. We must cease to continue being a part of the political game where both parties are guilty of tossing this 'ball' on the political court of popular votes.

In American history it has been the Republican Party that has been the leader of immigration reform. May I remind you that it was Republican President Ronald Reagan who led the fight on immigration reform in 1986 with the Immigration Reform and Control Act.

President George W. Bush, another Republican, also fought hard to try to bring reform to our broken immigration system. It was the Republican Party, in 2005-2006, who brought the immigration reform to the Capitol Hill once again.  It was again a Republican President, House and Senate that had the ball in their court, but the Democratic Party refused to participate and vote in it's favor. The Democratic Party has voiced publicly its support for immigration reform, but privately has held the immigration reform in their hands for over the past 10 years.

May I remind both parties that it was the Latino vote that catapulted President Obama's victory not once, but twice.

President Obama made a promise to the Latino community to pass immigration reform within 100 days of his presidency. Six years later, there is still no reform to our broken immigration system.

To both parties I say, (Que ya basta) enough of the political game.

The Word of God tells us in Leviticus (Lev. 19: 33-34) that we are to welcome the stranger and the immigrant and treat them like our own family. God watches out for the widow, orphan and immigrant.

I invite both parties to meet me at the Rotunda where our founders from both parties would meet to seek God in finding solutions to America's problems, putting aside political correctness and humbling themselves (II Chronicles 7:14) before our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. America is a Christian nation and we can realize God's solution to America's immigration battle on our knees.
