Christmas Miracle for Unique Ministry to Top Government Officials on Capitol Hill

Contact: Peggy Nienaber, Faith and Action, 202-546-8329, ext 104

WASHINGTON, Dec. 28, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- America's only Christian outreach to top government officials in Washington, DC, has received what it's calling an "end of year Christmas miracle."

Faith and Action in the Nation's Capital, headed by Rev. Rob Schenck, has engaged in aggressive evangelistic work among leading elected and appointed officials since 1994. The organization's ministry center is located immediately across the street from the Supreme Court and one block from the US Capitol.

Over its 17 years in Washington, Faith and Action has conducted countless ministry activities including highly personal one-on-one evangelism and pastoral care efforts with top government officials. Over the last 17 years, Faith and Action has witnessed many miracles.

Rev. Schenck remembers one miracle in particular that came after a call from a senior congressional staff member who pleaded with the minister to come talk to his boss who was threatening suicide.

"I cancelled everything and went right over to him. I met them inside the Capitol and this powerful Capitol Hill figure was crumpled at a table sobbing. He had a terrible scandal in his personal life. I prayed with him, assuring him of God's forgiveness in Christ if he would repent of his sin. He did, committing his life fully to Christ," said Schenck.

While Schenck is now used to seeing such miracles in response to the Gospel, he's now hoping for the biggest one ever. A church in Columbus, Ohio, has made an end-of-year challenge to Faith and Action, pledging to match every donation made to the ministry before midnight on December 31.

"Other groups can broadcast everything they do on television, radio, and the Internet, and that's where the bulk of ministry dollars are raised," said Schenck. "But our most important work is highly personal. We just can't discuss it in public. That makes fundraising very difficult. This matching gift at the end of the year is a gift from God to us."

Schenck is asking everyone who cares about the hearts and souls of our top officials in Washington to participate in this "end of the year miracle." To learn more about the work of Faith and Action, visit www.faithandaction.org.

Anyone can make a contribution in any amount to the matching fund. The best way is online at www.faithandaction.org, but gifts can also be sent by check to Faith and Action, 109 2nd Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002, or made by phone using a credit or debit card at 202-546-8329, extension 104. The first $10,000 in gifts made before midnight, December 31, 2011 will be matched and all gifts are fully tax-deductible.
