FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Nov. 28, 2022 /Christian Newswire/ -- Rev. Robert J. Pacienza, President & CEO of D. James Kennedy Ministries issued the following statement today:
A bipartisan group of senators is now poised to support passage of the (Dis)Respect for Marriage Act--and in so doing impose onerous new burdens on the free speech and religious liberty rights of faithful Christians.
What's especially objectionable about this lame-duck attack on America's first freedom is that at least 10 Republican senators support it. And they do so in direct violation of their own party's commitment in the 2020 Republican Party platform to uphold one-man, one-woman marriage.
God's design for marriage is best for a flourishing society. Anything that is done to undermine this sacred institution undermines society as a whole. And that is what this measure will do.
Make no mistake. This measure, if made law, will take a wrecking ball to religious liberty in America. Sen. Mike Lee warns that, "Religious Americans will be subject to potentially ruinous litigation, while the tax-exempt status of certain charitable organizations, education institutions and nonprofits will be threatened."
It is critical that Christians make their voice heard. If just three GOP senators switch their votes, it will stop the bill in its tracks. It will force Democrats--if they want this bill passed--to support Sen. Lee's amendment adding substantial religious liberty protections to the measure.
CALL SENATORS NOW
Two senators--Cynthia Lummis (WY) and Dan Sullivan (AK) have agreed to support Sen. Mike Lee's tough religious liberty amendment to the bill. But one more is needed. Please call the six senators below who are most likely to respond positively and urge them to vote NO on the (Dis)Respect for Marriage Act.
And because a vote is imminent, action is needed right away. The Capitol switchboard number is (202) 224-3121.
Contact these GOP senators and urge them to vote "NO" on the (Dis)Respect for Marriage Act.
