PORTLAND, Ore., Feb. 3, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- In January 2011, every U.S. Catholic church opened their mail to find a package from leading liturgical publisher, OCP. Inside -- essential resources for introducing the new Roman Missal -- free copies of the Revised Order of Mass with Supplemental Mass Settings booklet and New and Revised Mass Settings CD.
The booklet provides congregations with texts, prayers and responses for the revised Order of Mass -- including the official English-language ICEL chant settings -- along with the lyrics and melody lines to nine of OCP's parish-tested Mass settings. The accompanying CD features full recordings of these settings.
The new English translation of the Roman Missal is an important change to the Roman liturgy. Parishes will need to prepare both staff and assemblies to use the new texts well before November 27, 2011 - the official implementation date of the new translation.
"Although they cannot be used during Mass until Advent, 2011, assemblies can study the changes in advance and become comfortable with them," says OCP publisher, John Limb. "We want to ensure every Catholic church has resources to keep their parishioners up to date, engaged and inspired during this transition."
Using these essential tools, OCP hopes that church leaders will, in addition to exploring the new translation, discover Mass settings in styles that work well with their assemblies and music ensembles.
"While it is a significant investment for OCP, part of our mission is to help churches spread the Word of God, we believe that providing this supplement and CD free of charge will be very effective in assisting them in this task as they prepare to adopt the new translation," says Limb.
These resources as well as free PDF downloads of all of OCP's new and revised Mass settings are available at OCP.org/NewMassSettings. Visitors are encouraged to bookmark the page as it is continually updated with the newest information and resources regarding the new Roman Missal.
