Educational Budget Cuts Give Teachers Life-Changing Opportunities

Contact: Troy Simpson, World Gospel Mission, 765-671-7226

MEDIA ADVISORY, March 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- A recent massive budget shortfall in Kansas City will result in the closure of 29 schools in an attempt to address a projected $50 million budget shortfall for the 2010-2011 school year. More districts around the country will be forced to make similar decisions as they struggle with a severe shortage of education funding. In response, missionary-sending organization World Gospel Mission (WGM) is giving out-of-work teachers the opportunity to teach at international Christian schools in Bolivia and Uganda.

"Losing your job, for any reason, is extremely difficult. Oftentimes, you are left without a way to use those skills that you've spent time, money, and years developing and you can easily become discouraged," said Tim Rickel, vice president of Communication at WGM.  "We have a life-changing opportunity for teachers affected by the budget cuts to do what they love and change the lives of kids who need qualified teachers."

WGM missionaries serve in several Christian schools around the world, including Santa Cruz Christian Learning Center in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and Heritage International School in Kampala, Uganda. Although these English-language schools primarily serve children of missionaries, the high education standards attract students from many countries and backgrounds.

Short-term teaching opportunities range from a semester to a year, and teachers can expect to minister in Bible studies, retreats, and camps in addition to their classroom time. Both schools follow the American school year and offer programs for students in preschool through twelfth grade.

"It can be a serious step of faith to go from a steady job at an American public school to being a volunteer teacher to a class with students from 15 different countries," said Rickel. "But few things are as fulfilling or life-changing as venturing into a culture other than your own and using your God-given gifts to serve."

Those who are interested are encouraged to contact WGM directly for more information and additional help. Multiple openings are available for the 2010-2011 school year. For more information, visit www.wgm.org/go or call Troy Simpson at 765-671-7226.
