ORLANDO, Oct.10, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Before creating Holypop.com, Chris Carberg was an actor, screenwriter, and producer, appearing in commercials and feature films, (Moose in Sydney White with Amanda Bynes, and wrote, produced and starred in Kill Zone).

With his growing success, he also faced a secret battle. He'd developed a severe addiction to the powerful prescription painkiller, Vicodin. Originally taking it for migraine headaches, he became dependent on nearly 60 pills per day and had spiraled out of control.

His addiction landed him in an Orlando hospital in February 2005 (Carberg detailed his story in the 2010 book, On the Road to Hope). Following detox, rehab, and attending 12 step meetings, he still craved something. A lifelong agnostic brought up Catholic, he was uncomfortable with what he characterized as "hypocritical organized religion," but he also wanted a relationship with God. He decided to triy visiting Aloma Church.

"At Aloma Church, Pastor Anthony George taught me that while there are lots of false messengers, God  and his message is unchanging. I needed to hear that," Carberg said, "after that, I leapt into my first healthy addiction. I read the Bible cover to cover, and studied everything about my Jesus. I wanted to devote my life and talents to Jesus.”

In 2009, he founded Holypop.com, an educational community for believers and skeptics, with Bible study and  Christian answers forming a massive knowledge base. Holypop.com is now one of the largest Christian resources on the web, seeking to grow Bible literacy. People needed quality Bible answers faster, and Holypopsolved this issue.

Holypop has grown fast since its full launch earlier this year, with 25,000 visits, close to 100,000 pages views and 10,000 followers on twitter (@holypop) and facebook (facebook.com/holypop.com). In addition to their visitors, they've gained content from Dr. Elmer Towns, co-founder of Liberty University. Dr. Towns' office released the following statement:

"Dr. Towns has expressed appreciation for Holypop.com releasing his books and material through the internet. He prays that the ministry of Holypop.com would be successful, and God would use it to bless many people."

"There's never been a better time have faith," Carberg said. "The internet gives us an opportunity to access more data than any other time in history. The Gospel already went viral, and now it's doing it in another way. Holypop is helping Bible study go digital."
