Robert Stearns and Dr. Jack Hayford Lead Millions of Christians to Pray Throughout October 5th for Peace in Jerusalem and for the Many Needs of All Inhabitants

BUFFALO, Ny., Oct. 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- Millions of Christians united across denominational, cultural, and political differences on Sunday, October 5th to participate in The Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem (www.daytopray.com) and to ask for God's blessing and provision upon all of her people. Christians gathered to pray not only in their local worship services around the world, but also in larger regional gatherings throughout states and nations, in a cyberspace "prayer room" created by a 24 Hour Prayer Conference Call, and through a special Jerusalem gathering where the prayers by Arab, Jewish, and Christian leaders were broadcast to 200 nations on GODTV Satellite network.

The multi-national and religiously diverse character of this global prayer movement - Co-Chaired by Rev. Robert Stearns, founder/director of Eagles' Wings Ministries, and Dr. Jack Hayford, president of the Foursquare International Church - was uniquely reflected in the Jerusalem gathering where Christians from dozens of nations prayed on the Haas Promenade, overlooking the Old City of Jerusalem.

Rev. Stearns said, "We are praying past the place of political agenda; we are praying past the point of theological doctrinal statements. The Bible commands that we pray and the current situation demands that we pray."

Josh Reinstein, director of the Israeli Knesset's Christian Allies Caucus, reminded those gathered that, "Throughout the entire Hebrew Scriptures, God asked man to pray for one thing....the peace of Jerusalem." Gilad Erdan, Knesset's rising leader in the Likud party, boldly declared: "The most powerful weapon that Jews and Christians have is prayer."

"I am living proof that there is hope for the Palestinian people and there is love for the Palestinian people, in the name of Jesus," prayed Rev. Steven Khoury in both English and Arabic. Rev. Khoury is a Palestinian Christian who pastors Calvary Jerusalem Ministries and whose father pastors First Baptist Church in Bethlehem.

Although reports are still coming in, it is estimated that 175 nations and over 200,000 churches participated throughout October 5th. Some reports, like the one from Pastor Jesse Karanja of Mizpah Prayer Centre in Nakuru Kenya, shared how they devoted the entire weekend from Friday through Sunday, to worship and pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

While intercession was lifted up from cosmopolitan cities to jungle villages, from European cathedrals to underground churches in Muslim countries, teleconferencing technology allowed almost 700 callers to pray with other Christians during the 24 hours of October 5th in a "virtual prayer room." (www.greatercalling.org) Christians not only from American but also from Morocco, Kenya, Burkina Faso, Italy, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Germany, Brazil, and the Netherlands, prayed and sang in their native tongues, and wept as they prayed for Jerusalem and her people.
