WASHINGTON, Aug. 12 /Christian Newswire/ -- After a long summer of record breaking heat waves, three groups of college students will complete three simultaneous walks across America today in Washington, D.C. The groups started on May 21st in Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles and will finish together today at the U.S. Capitol Building.

The organization they are with is called Crossroads and they are walking to promote the dignity and sanctity of every human life, without exception, from conception until natural death.

“Every summer it seems apparent that the Pro-Life message is gaining momentum,” said Martha Nolan, National Director of Crossroads. “There is clearly a shift in this country toward building a Culture of Life” continued Nolan “Women aren’t buying into the empty promises the culture of death has offered them. They want something better for themselves and their children.”

The three groups, consisting of about a dozen volunteers each, walked over 9,500 miles through 31 states, and spoke to countless individuals along their journey.

Today, the walks will finish the last leg of their journey together from the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception at Catholic University to the steps of the U.S. Capitol. This will be followed by a Rally for Life on the West Front of the Capitol grounds at 1:30 with Stephen Peroutka, chairman of the National Pro-Life Action Center, as the keynote speaker.

“After crossing through thousands of towns and cities over the past 12 years, we can say firsthand that America truly is a pro-life nation” said Dave Kelch, a student at West Virginia University and member of the group that walked from San Francisco. “Undoubtedly there is still lots of work ahead,” said Mark Spencer, a walker of Ypsilanti, Michigan. “But, the work of Pro Life groups around the country is making a real difference.”

Since 1995, Crossroads has sponsored national walks across America from the West Coast to Washington, D.C. with volunteers from colleges and universities around the country.

America is a nation which should value every human life, no matter how weak or vulnerable,” added Martha Nolan. “We are dedicated to changing hearts and minds in our culture, so that this becomes a reality.”
