Television Personality Danette Joy Crawford Brings Joy By Way of 12th Annual Mother's Day Event
Event Will Play a Defining Role for Hundreds of Single Mothers
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., March 5, 2012 /
Christian Newswire/ -- The number of single-mother homes in the U.S. is staggering. Statistics show that single-mothers have the highest rate of poverty and lowest educational attainment, making a huge impact on critical economic growth and the future of their children. Whether through circumstance or choice, the disparities that impact these women came to the attention of TV personality Danette Joy Crawford. On behalf of these women, she has taken on many challenges as she advocates remedies to support education, child care, housing and the challenges most single-mothers face every day. Twelve years ago, Crawford opened her heart to the single moms in the Hampton Roads areas of Virginia and launched a Mother's Day event hoping to help alleviate the feeling of being alone on this very special day. Thousands of single moms don't have the luxury that many women have on Mother's Day. Crawford believes these women selflessly sacrifice each day for their children and need to be acknowledged and honored in the same spirit as those whose husbands and fathers are living in the home. This event has grown to over 1,900 single-mothers, exceeding even Crawford's own expectations.
Crawford knows too well the hardships of being a single mother. The husband she loved and planned to spend her life with rejected her, leaving when their daughter was just two weeks old. It was her faith that carried her through some of the most difficult times in her life. It is through Crawford's life experiences and her compassion that give her perpetual need to give recognition each Mother's Day to this growing population of single-mothers.
