CHICAGO, July 28 /Christian Newswire/ -- On the eve of a demonstration protesting an abortionist on staff at a Catholic Colorado hospital, Joe Scheidler, the national director of the Pro-Life Action League, is calling on all Catholic hospitals and institutions to recommit themselves to the values and principles they were founded on.

"Catholic hospitals should be permeated with the Catholic vision, not scandalized by having an abortionist on staff," said Scheidler, who has been fighting against abortion for more than 40 years. "This isn't just happening in Colorado, but this instance highlights the importance of looking beyond the mission statement and into the daily practices of any Catholic institution."

In Colorado, Dr. Richard Grossman is on staff at Mercy Regional Hospital and also performs abortions at the local Planned Parenthood. His writings have indicated that he is anti-Catholic. Scheidler comments, "Grossman's presence on the staff of Mercy Regional Hospital not only gives grave scandal, but gives this abortionist respectability that he is not entitled to, since he spends every Wednesday at 'Abortion, Incorporated,' Planned Parenthood."

"As bioethics become increasingly complex and moral relativism continues to spread nationwide, I encourage all Catholic institutions to take the high road and aggressively pursue our mission as Catholics in health care, education and social justice ministries," said Scheidler. He adds that at the risk of lawsuits or threats, Catholic institutions should seek to employ only those whose values match the mission of the Catholic Church.

Scheidler is scheduled to speak at a press conference and protest on Thursday, July 29 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, Colo. For more information on this event, click here.
