JAG to Conservative Senators: Stop Kavanaugh

Contact: Phillip Leo Jauregui, Judicial Action Group, 202-216-9309

WASHINGTON, July 19, 2018 /Christian Newswire/ -- Today, Judicial Action Group (JAG) delivered a letter to conservative Senators and Senate leadership asking them to oppose the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court.

JAG President – Phillip L. Jauregui – stated:

"As we learned today with the failed judicial nomination of Ryan Bounds, it will only take one conservative Senator to stop the risky confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Since 1975, Republican Supreme Court nominees have been a disappointment to constitutionalists half of the time precisely because we have failed to sufficiently minimize risk and have not learned from past mistakes. The failure must end here and now.

"Kavanaugh's record is fraught with risk and I'm concerned he may be pandering to pro-abortion Senators. In his speech accepting the nomination from President Trump, Kavanaugh distinctly praised Justice Anthony Kennedy for the one attribute in Kennedy's record that is most destructive to our constitution, our nation, and our children: his pro-abortion distortion of liberty.

"I regret to say it, but Justice Kennedy has been a deep disappointment to conservatives and constitutionalists. His record is half-constitutional, half-activist, and wholly unacceptable as a pattern for our next Justice. We just can't risk confirming Kennedy 2.0 and Kavanaugh is the most likely of the four finalists to be another disappointing swing vote.

"Conservative voters want Senators to get this decision right. There is a time for deference to Senate leadership and the President, but this moment of conscience demands more than deference.

"Kavanaugh cannot be confirmed unless every active Republican Senator votes for him. That is a weighty burden, but it is also an opportunity. Perhaps one conservative Senator has come to their position for such a time as this?"
