MANASSAS, Virginia, Oct. 1 /Christian Newswire/ -- Opposition to the $700 billion Wall Street bailout is the conservatives' path toward winning control of Congress in the 2010 elections, Richard A. Viguerie, Chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, said.

"Conservatives will challenge, in primaries and general elections, both Republicans and Democrats who vote for the bailout. In the next election, you will see the election of a new generation of principled conservative leaders - a change that will remake Congress," he said.

Viguerie added: "The American people have recognized the bailout for what it is - an attempt by the economic and political elite to extort money and power at the expense of the American taxpayer and of future generations. Many of the bailout supporters will get away with it this year simply because it's too late for someone to run against them. But wait 'til the next election.

"As I've noted before, the Panama Canal Treaty in 1977 dramatically changed the face of American politics, with 21 of the Senate's Treaty supporters going down to defeat in the next two elections and only one Treaty opponent losing. The bailout is one of those defining, us-versus-them issues that reveals, in one vote, who is on the side of the people and who is on the side of the Wall Street and Washington special-interest fat cats and their lobbyists."

"The potential for change is even greater than in the case of the Panama Canal treaty," Viguerie said, "because only Senators voted on the treaty, while this issue will affect both Senators and members of the House."
