ENUMCLAW, Wash., Jan. 4 /Christian Newswire/ -- Suicide ravages over 30,000 American lives each year needlessly. Dawn Pokorney recounts the true story of Heather, her downward spiral and suicide attempt, and the subsequent hope the conclusion of her story brings.
Heather blocked the tailpipe of her car, got in, closed the doors, rolled up the windows, and started the engine. Divorce and the loss of her sons had driven her to the edge, but her dark thoughts were interrupted just in time to save her. Seemingly insurmountable challenges follow Heather for most of her life as do the miraculous events that counteract them. Dawn Pokorney's new book, "The Miracle of the Lighthouse Cove" [WinePress Publishing, 2006], recounts the true story of a woman's battle against severe health problems, depression, and suicide.
Misrepresented to the court system, Heather lost custody of her two sons and was devastated by the loneliness and bitterness she felt at their departure. In an attempt to fill the void in her life and to regain a measure of self-esteem, she dedicated herself to her nursing career – at times to her own detriment. Then came one overwhelming illness after another. As she fought her way back to health, she took delight in nursing a child with multiple birth defects and in volunteering to answer phone calls from those on the brink as she had been. Her belief in marriage had been wounded by her bad experience, but as she dealt with her grief she developed a tenderness and vulnerability toward a special man. Over the years after her suicide attempt, Heather had also strengthened her relationship with the Lord and had developed a vibrant prayer life.
