INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Dec. 19, 2014 /Christian Newswire/ -- WHO: Peter Breen, Thomas More Society Vice President and Senior Counsel, available for comment.

WHAT: Emergency Injunction Hearing over privately-sponsored nativity scene on lawn in front of Franklin County Courthouse.

WHEN: Friday, December 19, 2014, 9:00am EST

WHERE: United States District Court Southern District of Indianapolis Courthouse:
46 East Ohio Street, Indianapolis, IN 46204
Lynch Courtroom 272, Magistrate Judge Debra McVicker

DETAILS:
Thomas More Society attorneys will assist as pro hac vice counsel in defending Franklin County against the ACLU of Indiana and Freedom from Religion Foundation (FFRF) who have filed a lawsuit against the County over a privately-sponsored nativity scene. The ACLU and FFRF are seeking to force removal of the nativity scene that private citizens set up on the designated public forum in front of the County Courthouse.

Franklin County's Commissioners approve requests for displays and events in front of the Courthouse from different groups throughout the year, including a child abuse awareness group, garden club, and private citizens who sponsor and set up a nativity scene each year at Christmastime.

Thomas More Society will argue against the ACLU's and FFRF's attempts to force removal of the nativity scene. Because the nativity scene is privately funded and sponsored, bereft of any government aid or endorsement, it is clothed and armored with the full protection of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
