LONDON, June 24 /Christian Newswire/ -- Dr. Alveda King, Director of African American Outreach for Priests for Life, visited the statue of her uncle, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., at Westminster Abbey while in London yesterday. The statue is one of ten 20th Century martyrs of the Christian faith memorialized in 1998 at the historic church.
"It is overwhelming to see the tribute paid to Uncle Martin by my British brothers and sisters," said Dr. King, "but I know the glory is all God's. It is the message that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., preached -- God's Word -- that still resonates today because the truth is timeless."
"Uncle Martin taught one of the great commandments, that we are to love our neighbor as ourselves," added Dr. King. "Our neighbor is every person, whether living next door, across the ocean, or in the womb. I pray today that Uncle Martin's dream of equal rights and respect for all, born and unborn, will soon come to pass."
