Statement Regarding 'Large Families - The Future of Humanity' International Forum in Moscow, September 10-11
ROCKFORD, Ill., Sept. 8, 2014 /
Christian Newswire/ -- World Congress of Families Managing Director Larry Jacobs today issued the following statement:
Some months ago the International Planning Committee of the World Congress of Families, consisting of representatives of various groups from around the world, determined that the geopolitical situation warranted a postponement of the World Congress of Families VIII – Moscow.
The Russian Organizing Committee determined they wanted to go ahead a conference anyway. We understand, as they do, that the conference that convenes this week in Moscow is not a part of the World Congress of Families.
A few World Congress of Families personnel plan on attending the conference as individuals and supporting our Russian civil society friends who are working to protect the unborn child and the natural family. Though we will be present, as was agreed by the International Planning Committee many months ago, the WCF is not financially supporting the conference in Moscow this week and we have not lent our name to what should be a very interesting conference. Dr. Allan Carlson, Founder and International Secretary of WCF has declined an invitation to speak and will not be attending the conference.
Next year the World Congress of Families IX will convene on October 27-30 in the United States of America (
www.wcf9.org). Our presence there should not be construed as supporting all of the policies of the Obama Administration. In the same way, World Congress presence anywhere in the world is an expression of solidarity not with governments but with people who are working to make a difference to promote the natural family and the dignity of the whole person. Through our global partners on five continents we are engaged in societal many efforts to protect the unborn, encourage marriage, reduce poverty, improve the health of children and adults, help orphans find homes, and eliminate human trafficking and prostitution.
World Congress of Families organizes a global network of pro-family and pro-life groups and has more than 40 official partner organizations. WCF is an International Peace Award Recipient (from 100 Cities For Peace) for our work in promoting peace through the family consistent with United Nations goals. Our mission is to affirm the natural family as the fundamental unit of society consistent with Article 16 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We believe that the philosophical aspects of humane civilizations (Goodness, Truth and Beauty) are learned through the family and are necessary to ensure ordered liberty, authentic prosperity, democracy, and freedom for all people of goodwill.
