WASHINGTON, April 13, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Participants from around the world will gather in the nation's capitol to attend a conference sponsored by Holt International and Adoptees for Children. The conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Capitol Hill, April 14-16, 2011.
Adult adoptees will participate in a press conference on Thursday, April 14, in the Murrow, White and Lisagor Room at the National Press Club at 12:30 p.m. Hosted by Adoptees for Children (A4C), the panel of international adult adoptees from various countries will provide unique and personal insights into the international adoption experience from a generational perspective.
"When international adoption was pioneered 55 years ago, there was no roadmap to follow," says Glenn Morey of Colorado, a member of A4C. "But now there are three generations of adult adoptees and we know something about how intercounty adoption should be."
"It isn't always easy and there are challenges," Morey continues, "but our lives demonstrate that challenges can be overcome."
Adoptees for Children (A4C) is an organization of adult adoptees established in response to the needs of children who do not have families and do not have a voice to represent them. The organization's goal is to work with child welfare experts, policy makers, the media, concerned citizens and others to eliminate barriers to children having families and to promote domestic adoption in Korea.
Harry and Bertha Holt of Creswell, OR founded Holt International in 1956 after Congress passed a special act enabling them to adopt eight Korean orphans.
