Christian Newswire/ -- Cleveland Indians pitcher Justin Masterson has had a busy season that will continue into October. The All-Star pitcher and Bright Hope ambassador played a major part in getting his team into the post season, clinching the wild card spot on Sunday, while also recently being nominated for the prestigious Roberto Clemente Award.
"Justin is an extremely talented ball player with much to offer on and off the field," said CH Dyer, Bright Hope President and CEO. "As an organization we are honored to have a man of Justin's integrity and dedication on our team."
According to the official website, the annual Clemente award goes to a player who best represents the game of baseball through positive contributions on and off the field, including sportsmanship and community involvement.
When interviewed for the Roberto Clemente award's website Masterson said, "It's an honor to be nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award. So many people have been nominated in the past have done such great things. To whom much is given, much is required, and I try to live by that."
Justin and his wife Meryl joined with Bright Hope and Moody Radio Cleveland this past summer for Feed their Future, a campaign dedicated to bringing hope to 1,400 students living in the Mathare Valley slum in Nairobi, Kenya. The campaign exceeded the original goal and raised almost $200,000 for the school-feeding program. In November Justin will travel with a Bright Hope team to the Mathare Valley and witness the positive impact of the campaign.
