MADISON, Wis., Oct. 15, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- Steve McConkey, President of BigPlanetWatch.com and a minister to world-class track and field athletes since 1981, believes the recent United States Olympic Committee policy change to add homosexuality to its anti-discrimination policies is wrong.

The Olympics will be in Russia in the winter of 2014. Russia has laws that seem to target gays. Last week, the United States Olympic Committee added homosexuality to its anti-discrimination policies ahead of the Olympic Games in Russia.

The U.S. Olympic charter now states that any form of discrimination on grounds of "race, religion, politics, gender or otherwise" is incompatible with the Olympic movement.

Larry Probst, an International Olympic Committee member from the United States, said he would support a similar change to the IOC charter.

USOC CEO Scott Blackmun said in a teleconference with news reporters. "We need to send a clear message that sexual orientation was among the categories we will not tolerate discrimination. We didn't want to leave any doubt."

Steve McConkey believes it is wrong that "gays are targeted in countries like in the Middle East and in Russia."

However, he believes that no sexual orientation discrimination policies should be supported by the Olympic movement. "The IOC allowed the Olympic Games to be in China in 2008 while hundreds were in prison for being Christian and the country has 100 million underground Christians. They did not speak up about this, but now a sin category is added to non-discrimination policies. Hypocrisy."

"Christians believe homosexuality is a sin. So that means that Christians are discriminators? Also, do we add other sin categories to the Olympic charter?," says McConkey. "What about a scenario where a Christian clothing manufacturer or a private business does not support gay events or athletes. Will they be targeted? I know this is hypothetical, but what will eventually give?"

Already, bakeries, photographers, and others are being taken to court for refusing to serve at gay weddings.

"The policies are set-up for discrimination against gay athletes, but there could be reverse discrimination in the future. It is a matter of time when Christians that believe homosexuality is a sin will go against the law of the land," says McConkey. "I know the originators of the policies did not create them to go in this direction, but the Olympic movement shadows what is happening in the real world. A few years ago, they tried to recruit athletes to promote UN global warming policies. The IOC is supposed to be non-political."

In 2003, Steve took a stand against transgenders being allowed in the Olympic Games to no avail.
