Hollywood Needs Sunday School

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., Nov. 13, 2014 /Christian Newswire/ -- "Any of you guys ever go to Sunday school?" asked Indiana Jones in 1981's "Raiders of the Lost Ark." Given the problematic Bible films of 2013/2014 including December 2014's "Exodus: Gods and Kings" this question must be reintroduced. Christian Bale (Moses) stated recently that the biblical lawgiver was a barbaric schizophrenic and Exodus director Ridley Scott favors natural causes rather than God's influence over the dividing of the Red Sea waters.

It is clear that Hollywood needs to return to Sunday school to re-learn Bible basics. Then again why should they if filmmakers can get endorsements from nationally known Christian leaders and make a buck off the Virgin Mary's possible promiscuity with one of Herod's men thus producing Jesus (The Nativity Story, 2006), a unscriptural resurrection kiss by Jesus on the head of the dead Lazarus (Son of God) or ark-building, exploding rock monsters in Russell Crowe's "Noah?"

What can the Christian community do to send a clear message to Hollywood? First, nationally known clergy must refrain from endorsing unscriptural productions and Christian media outlets from accepting ads. Second, if Bible films do not accurately depict the basics of God's word "as written" then Christian cash should go towards faith-friendly entertainment alternatives such as the film "The Gospel of John" starring Henry Ian Cusick (LOST) or "Moses" starring Ben Kingsley. Third, churches need weekly Sunday morning apologetics classes to address the current cultural issues of the day from a biblical perspective, "Defending the Bible Internationals Biographies of the Bible classes do precisely that," says ministry founder and director Rick Dack.

A return to Bible basics is at the core of this ministries classes and presentations. Every Christian should reacquaint themselves with Bible characters - who they were, what they did, archaeological support for their existence and how to apply their life lessons today. The "Biographies of the Bible" classes also address current myths about the Bible that appear on television documentaries (History Channel) and within satirical animated series' (Family Guy etc;) followed up with Bible defense tools. Encouraging Hollywood stories of faith, information on pro-faith entertainment alternatives (DVD's, music, clean comedians, pro-Bible academics) and Christian participation in the entertainment industry is encouraged not discouraged by Defending the Bible International as long as the person of faith enters the profession with a no compromise yet respectful attitude.
