FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., June 22, 2023 /Christian Newswire/ -- Dr. Robert J. Pacienza, president and CEO of D. James Kennedy Ministries, and senior pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church released this statement to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's June 24, 2022, Dobbs v. Jackson decision which overturned Roe v. Wade:

Thousands of children are alive today because, one year ago, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed its infamous Roe v. Wade ruling.

The #WeCount project of the Society of Family Planning calculates 5,777 fewer abortions monthly in the first six months after the Court handed down its Dobbs v. Jackson one year ago. Annualized, the number of children spared from the cruelty of abortion is now more than 60,000.

And for that I thank God. Abortion is a grotesque injustice against the unborn person. He or she is fully human from conception onward, a beating heart by 22 days, recognizable fingers and toes by seven weeks, and every organ is present by eight weeks. The preborn child's humanity is undeniable to anyone willing to recognize the obvious--and the clear and unambiguous verdict of science.

Taking the lives of these innocent and defenseless little ones in the name of "choice" is the worst crime imaginable. And a grotesque injustice that violates God's law.

But things are changing. More and more unborn now have a chance at life, thanks to the millions of people--nearly all of them followers of Jesus Christ--who prayed, worked, and gave to reach this point.

Of course so much more needs to be done--including federal legislation to protect the unborn. Just fourteen states--so far--protect all or nearly all unborn children from abortion. Another six states protect children between six and 20 weeks.

Sadly, we are now led by the most pro-abortion president in U.S. history. Joe Biden is aggressively seeking to impose abortion nationwide including in the U.S. military--and at taxpayer expense. But that's not what Americans wants.

A just-released poll for the Susan B. Anthony Fund found that 52% of Americans support federal legislation to permanently prohibit taxpayer funding of abortions, with exceptions for the life of the mother, rape and incest. And 53% of Americans support federal legislation to protect the unborn after 15 weeks, when these babies are capable of feeling pain (while leaving states free to protect all babies from the moment of conception).

The movement to protect the unborn has made great progress. By God's grace, I believe we can prevail for the unborn. We can become a nation that, once more, protects every child in the womb from conception onward, and regardless of the circumstances of his or her conception.
