LOS ANGELES, July 20 /Christian Newswire/ -- With the announcement that President George W. Bush will speak to the NAACP’s annual Convention today, making it the first time in his Presidency, Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, Founder and President of BOND (Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny) is calling on the President to speak “straight up” to NAACP leaders and their members. Rev. Peterson said that the NAACP is declining in membership and finances, and that they need the President more than he needs them. Rev. Peterson listed 5 things President Bush could say to the NAACP:
1. “The NAACP has equated my party with the Nazi Party while consistently delivering black votes to the Democrats. My party promotes policies that will help blacks prosper. I encourage you to break away from group thinking and not be beholden to Democrats.”
2. “More than 70% of black babies are born out of wedlock. Now black Americans comprise 13 percent of our population, but account for half of all the new HIV/AIDS diagnoses. You bet there’s a moral crisis in black America—let’s work together to fix it.”
3. “After Katrina I was accused by many of you of not carin’ about black folks. I represent and care about all Americans. And I agree with your President Bruce Gordon when he said Monday that black Americans should end ‘victim-like thinking.’”
4. “Your Chairman Julian BOND has insulted members of my Cabinet including Secretary of State Condi Rice and Colin Powell by calling them ‘tokens.’ I encourage you to embrace black Republicans and stop trying to tear them down.”
5. “We’re all Americans and I call on the NAACP and its members to reject judging folks based on color and start judging people on the content of their character.”
BOND and the Heritage Foundation will co-sponsor the “Moral Reconstruction: A Model for Urban Transformation Conference” on Wednesday, July 26, 2006, in Washington D.C. For more information visit www.bondinfo.org
