ENUMCLAW, Wash., Mar. 28 /Christian Newswire/ -- The star systems have aligned. It's been 30 years since the release of "Star Wars™ Episode IV: A New Hope." In celebration of this momentous occasion, author Caleb Grimes penned "Star Wars™ Jesus".

Grimes calls his book "a spiritual commentary on the reality of the Force; a celebration of everywhere Jesus is present in the 'Star Wars™' movies."

Organized into 101 commentaries that mirror the chronology of each "Star Wars™" movie, the book compares "the most popular myth of our time" with Jesus, "the real, live hero of all time."

For "Star Wars™" fans young and old, watching the movies "is almost a religious experience," says Grimes. "Even George Lucas says 'Star Wars™' provides moral grounding for those who grow up without a strong family bond."

Lucas's mythical tales have taught generations of movie-goers the difference between right and wrong, good and evil—the same themes children learn in Sunday school. Grimes's book explores the ways in which religion and myth change what we do and how we think, incorporating hot-button topics such as war, gender issues, abortion, politics, and theology.

"Star Wars™ Jesus" is an extension of Grimes's own faith journey. He became a Christian the same month "Star Wars™ IV" was released, in 1977. He had several "Dagobah experiences"—during which he learned from Christian masters such as Francis Schaeffer.

A self-described post-modern Gen-Xer, Grimes seeks to introduce "The Force" of Christianity to a generation weaned on pop culture. "I'm not selling Jesus to 'Star Wars™' fans," Grimes notes. "I seek a fresh approach to evangelism in a world where Christian images and metaphors are no longer known. I seek to be like the apostle Paul on Mars Hill, declaring to everyone the 'un-known' God of The Force whom they worship."

Peter Edman, Editor of Metaphilm.com says: "Clearly driven by a love of both 'Star Wars™' and Jesus, the author works to do justice to both. The result is not what you are expecting. This extended interpretation…will get you thinking about them [the 'Star Wars™' films]--and your understanding of Jesus--in a fresh way."
