ORLANDO, July 26 /Christian Newswire/ -- While Transformers and Harry Potter captivate American audiences this summer, speakers of India's Ho language will celebrate the arrival of their very own version of the JESUS film. For the first time, JESUS--the most translated film in history--will help bring Christ to life for more than a million people whose mother-tongue language is Ho.

The book of Luke, on which JESUS is based, was the first book of the Bible to be completely translated into Ho--a language also known as Lanka Kol. The Ho translation of the Bible began in the early '90s and was managed primarily by Wycliffe Bible Translators and its affiliate ministry, The Seed Company--which partners with indigenous nationals to translate the Bible.

It is estimated that the Bible translation efforts of Wycliffe and its affiliated ministries have directly impacted 70 translations of JESUS. Bob Creson, President of Wycliffe Bible Translators USA, congratulated Campus Crusade for Christ--the producers of the film--for achieving such a noteworthy record. "We are delighted that our passion for Bible translation is able to support the world-wide efforts of The JESUS Film Project. We are honored to be a long-time partner of The JESUS Film Project team and celebrate this milestone with the Campus Crusade team."

Wycliffe's worldwide Bible translation work--and the language development that is a foundational element of each translation--impacts the efforts of countless other Christian ministries, relief organizations, governments, and more. The JESUS film's reliance on Wycliffe translations typifies Wycliffe's unexpected reach, which can be seen through improved literacy rates, health care, government relations and advocacy programs.
