NEW YORK, Nov. 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- The American Bible Society, working cooperatively with the New Orleans Hornets of the National Basketball Association, participated in the first Faith & Family Night at the team's home game with the San Antonio Spurs, Friday, November 9. The game concluded with a post-game Christian concert featuring national recording artists Point of Grace. The Bible Society created a special Book of Psalms given to every fan who wanted to have it. Word Entertainment, a division of Warner Brothers, provided Point of Grace for the concert.
Peter Goldsberry, Senior Vice President of the Hornets, said, "I'm a man of God and he put me in this position with the Hornets. I did not make the Faith & Family night possible. The Lord did. I opened my heart to him and he is so good to me. So if I can give back something as a result, I want to do it. To be in the position I am is exciting." He continued, "That night was made possible by the Bible Society and so many other people who are Christians. And Word was terrific in providing Point of Grace. It's all about what you give in this world and I was brought to tears when the American Bible Society was handing out the Psalms to thousands of people. Anything I can do for the Bible society, in my position, I will do."
Dr. Joseph Crockett of the American Bible Society was instrumental in the Bible Society's participation in the event. He said, "The owner and the senior staff of the Hornets were intent on helping to point toward a faith that serves the foundation of the rebuilding of the community. The Hornets allowed the Bible Society to fulfill our mission. The words, 'Take the Word challenge,' were emblazoned on T-shirts and our American Bible Society logo was on the back of the shirt. The people who experienced the evening were not those who ever necessarily set foot in a church. This was an outreach to regular people about the power of God’s Word to change lives." He concluded, "Any time that we can reach out in this way is a real success."
