LA MIRADA, Calif., Dec. 1, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- Today, millions around the world will participate in "Giving Tuesday," an annual day dedicated to give back to worthwhile causes. Biola University is focusing on one of the most worthwhile causes the university knows: Biola students. Over the 24 hours of Giving Tuesday, Biola hopes to raise $100,000 for student scholarships, 100 percent of which will be given to students in the 2016-2017 school year.

Due to the generosity of an anonymous donor, all donations towards the Giving Tuesday scholarship will be matched, dollar for dollar up to $50,000.

"This is a unique opportunity for us to harness social media in a way that encourages faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents and friends of the university to support the immediate needs of our current students and help with the larger university initiative of college affordability," said Adam Morris, vice president of university advancement.

Biola University is a place where Christians are equipped and sent out to solve complex problems and share the love of Christ. Biola invites alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff, and anyone in support of Biola's mission to send out graduates — Christians of conviction, courage and compassion — to help maximize the impact of Biola students by easing their financial burden.

The total amount of money raised on Giving Tuesday will go into a special scholarship fund that will be distributed for the 2016-2017 year. The total Biola gives away will be contingent upon how much the university raises. Scholarship details and an application will be released on Dec. 7.
