WASHINGTON, June 19 /Christian Newswire/ -- On Tuesday, June 26th, 2007, the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives will convene a Compassion in Action Roundtable with a discussion entitled, "State Strategies." The Roundtable will highlight promising models of innovation from within state and local governments nationwide. Special focus will be placed on replicable partnerships between Federally-funded programs and community and faith-based nonprofits that strengthen services to the needy.
To date, 33 governors and more than 100 mayors have Faith-Based and Community Initiative offices or liaisons. State and local officials and administrators are increasingly creating their own innovative efforts to draw upon the distinctive capabilities, dedicated volunteers and deep commitment to service found in faith-based and community organizations. These efforts are enhancing services to the needy, enriching community life, boosting the effectiveness of government, and providing life-changing aid to many who otherwise may have fallen through the cracks.
The Roundtable's panelists and audience will be comprised of State and local faith-based and community liaisons, government officials, policymakers, business leaders, foundation representatives, philanthropists and faith-based and community leaders.
