LAS VEGAS, Nov. 9, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- A new Advent book shares the Biblical origin of Christmas with children and families. The "Children's Book of Advent: 25 Days with Jesus," written by Pastor Bill Phillips and published in partnership with NET Bible®, introduces the story of Advent through kid-friendly narration, language, and original artwork.
The "'Children's Book of Advent'... helps children to understand some of the background to Jesus' birth in an engaging way," says W. Hall Harris III, Ph.D. "It allows children to participate in the anticipation of the Christmas season and keeps the focus where it belongs, on the birth of Jesus."
Harris is professor of New Testament Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary and senior editor/project manager for the NET Bible® (netbible.org).
Author Phillips notes that "each day includes a Bible verse and explanation that is understandable for kids, and easy for older kids to read to their younger brothers and sisters." Phillips adds, "We designed it so that kids and families can read a little bit each day, from December 1st through Christmas morning."
The book is narrated by Izzy the mouse, drawn by illustrator Alexandra Kulish-Hainsworth. Izzy appears in classical Biblical clothing and explains the importance of Old Testament prophets, Bethlehem, the lineage of and promise of Jesus, angels, and of course Mary, Joseph and the shepherds.
"I loved being able to bring Izzy to life for the book!" says Kulish-Hainsworth. "I think kids can relate to him dressing up in different outfits as they learn the story."
The book is available through Amazon.com. More information can be found at www.adventforkids.com.
NOTE TO EDITORS: Full-length PDFs of the book and high-resolution JPGs are available to media for review purposes.
