WASHINGTON, Nov. 8 /Christian Newswire/ -- "In the final hours of the 40 Days for Life campaign, a volunteer approached me with a sincere, heartfelt question," said David Bereit, national campaign director for 40 Days for Life. "At an event in Fargo, North Dakota, a young man rolled his wheelchair over to me and said, 'I hope you aren't offended by this, but we simply can't stop!'

"Not only do I understand that no-quit attitude but I also fully embrace it," said Bereit. "He's absolutely correct. The abortion industry believes that we are going to simply fade away. They fully expect us to settle back into complacency, leaving them free to continue their deadly business without hindrance. This cannot happen. This will not happen."

The 40 Days for Life campaign began on September 26 in more than 80 communities in 33 states, with thousands of volunteers from coast to coast engaging in peaceful pro-life outreach--and in many cases, round-the-clock prayer vigils outside abortion facilities and Planned Parenthood locations.

"Some of the local campaign leaders are still going, through Day 41 and beyond," said Bereit. "We certainly encourage anyone whose heart has been moved by this effort to follow that prompting; there's much to be done, and the momentum provided by this 40-day vigil simply must be maintained."

There are states that have only a few abortion facilities. North Dakota, for instance, has but one remaining abortion center. "The people of North Dakota are committed to press on in their work, because they firmly believe that they will be the first abortion-free state in America," said Bereit. "With the level of determination I witnessed -- and with God's help -- perhaps they will."

Many pro-life leaders around the country are convinced that 40 Days for Life is just the tip of the iceberg, and that America is on the verge of a revolutionary breakthrough for life. "I completely agree," said Bereit. "I have never been more hopeful about the future than I am today, and I truly believe the seeds that have been planted during 40 Days for Life will mark the beginning of the end of abortion in the United States. As I look back on what these amazing people have done, I express my profound thanks to all who have joined on this journey."
