WASHINGTON, Nov. 2, 2024 /Christian Newswire/ -- The prayer and worship gathering will take place on Sunday, November 3, at 2:30 PM on the southeastern lawn of the Capitol.
The Christian Defense Coalition will be praying for the elections, national healing, spiritual awakening and a peaceful transference of power.
On Friday, November 1, Rev. Patrick Mahoney was informed by the Capitol Police his prayer vigil and worship service for November 3 on the Capitol grounds would have to be reduced in size, because of "an increased security posture."
Below are portions of an email, sent by the Special Events Section of the United States Capitol Police, to Rev. Mahoney.
"...the Special Events Section has been advised that an increased security posture on U.S. Capitol Grounds has been put into place. Due to this enhancement of security, East Front Demonstration Areas will only be able to accommodate groups of 30 participants or less." -- Special Events Section of the United States Capitol Police.
The Christian Defense Coalition had received an approved permit to hold a prayer vigil and worship gathering on the grounds of the United States Capitol to pray for national healing, the elections, spiritual awakening and a peaceful transference of power.
Rev. Mahoney was also informed by the US Capitol Police his prayer gatherings on the steps of the Capitol before and after the elections may be prohibited based on security concerns.
Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition based in Washington, D.C., states:
"For weeks we have been praying there would be no violence before and after the election this November 5. Regardless of who might be our next President, violence has no place in the political process. Americans should be able to express their political views and differences openly and free from the threat of violence.
"Our prayer and worship and service on the grounds of the United States Capitol on November 3rd, will be a time of asking God to guide the elections, bring healing to a divided America, ensure there would be no violence, and seek God for national spiritual awakening.
"In the closing hours before the election, we are inviting Christians from all across America to passionately seek God for His leading in our national elections. Through prayer, we can see God shift, shape and transform history."
