Christian Newswire/ -- A cover story from
Today's Christian Woman magazine featuring Michigan adoptive mom and author Kim de Blecourt ("Until We All Come Home: A Harrowing Journey, a Mother's Courage, a Race to Freedom," November 2012, FaithWords) recently inspired Tim and Bess Lewis of southern Illinois to take a leap of faith.
After reading her story, "A Home for All Children," in Today's Christian Woman's most recent edition, the couple decided to leave their jobs in agriculture and teaching to pursue full-time ministry with the non-profit organization Food for Orphans. Putting feet to their words, they hosted their first food-packing event in Carbondale, Illinois on February 2.
Kim de Blecourt was overwhelmed. "It was amazing to see the diversity of food packing participants. The best thing was we were all gathered to help feed the orphans of the world!"
"Seeing Kim in the new issue of Today's Christian Woman delivering food to orphans, I was really inspired," said Bess Lewis.
"I learned that Food for Orphans' was looking for a regional representative so we reached out to FFO president Gary VanDyke, and two weeks later were headed out to Colorado to meet him. We knew it was where God was leading us."
Food for Orphans President Gary VanDyke, commented that "their efforts have made it possible for us to ship over 100,000 meals overseas. I can only imagine how far their tremendous passion and drive will take them."
Tim Lewis has several more food packing events scheduled this year, including one in Grand Rapids, Michigan, scheduled for November 2, 2013.
Asked whether they think they did the right thing, Bess Lewis puts the matter to rest. "I couldn't imagine us doing anything else!"
