ATLANTA, December 18 /Christian Newswire/ -- The holidays are here and many of us will soon be making New Years weight loss resolutions. While tradition shows that most resolutions made in January are forgotten by February, wellness coaches can increase your chances of success. Using principles of positive psychology, wellness coaches partner with their clients to identify motivation for change, create action steps toward their goals, and assist them in overcoming obstacles.
The following tips from Wellness Coach and author of "MoneyWise Weight Loss", Kimberly Floyd, can help us succeed with our resolutions this year. Floyd herself has maintained an 85-pound weight loss.
Tip 1: Create a vision. Before undertaking any major goal, Floyd advises to see the goal as if it is already achieved. Ask: "How will things be better for me three months from now when I stick to my plan?" Writing your vision builds confidence. Floyd also recommends cutting pictures from magazines that illustrate how you want to look and feel, and then pasting them on a poster board for extra motivation.
Tip 2: Define your reasons. In the case of weight loss, she advises going beyond surface reasons like looking better to deeper ones like wanting to set a good example for your children and living to see your grandchildren grow up. Floyd explains: "When reasons are linked to your values, you are more likely to sick with your good intentions long enough to see results."
Tip 3: Start with small steps. Floyd recommends that you write down small steps that you can practice consistently rather than overhauling your life completely. She suggests that you ask, "What three habits can I practice consistently that will make the biggest difference in my weight right now?" The changes might be as simple as trading in soft drinks for water or chips and cookies for fruit. She asserts, "'Small and steady' wins the race every time when it comes to losing weight."
With these tips, resolution success is yours. Before you know it, you will have a slimmer body and the peace of mind that comes from a goal well accomplished.
